Bloomsbury Publishing plc is best known as the publisher of the Harry Potter series.
In 2008 Bloomsbury Publishing decided to diversify and expand into academic publishing. I was hired as its Founding Publisher and established a small team.
We differentiated ourselves from others by publishing monographs online as open access, one of the early adopters of this model for books.
I also led the team that won the bid to digitise and publish the Winston Churchill Archive. This major project was a source of considerable learning and pride for us all at Bloomsbury.
The academic list has since grown to become a leader in the Humanities and Social Sciences through home grown titles and the acquisition of numerous small companies. The press now publishes around 2,000 titles a year.
